So, although I tried really hard not to let it bother me, the release of RE5 still really depressed me. :/
I was actually so scared of seeing a sudden flux of "OMFG 5 is the best RE EVUR!!1!" related arts that I avoided logging on to this account for like a week and half.

I couldn't seem to draw anything at all, especially anything Resident Evil related. I was in a funk.

But then my boyfriend passed me the translated scans of the Umbrella Chronicles manga, and OMFG I was so happy. Elated. Euphoric. I know it doesn't make 5 go away, but it still made me feel significantly better. I'm in such a creative mood right now.

The sketch for this drawing is probably a good 2-3 months old. I got the image in my head while out with a friend of mine and the song "Mona Lisa" played from a misc CD, but I only worked on it vaguely from time to time with no real drive to finish it. However, after reading both chapters of the "Prelude to Destruction" manga I wanted to work on something Wesker/Chris related and remembered this piece. It only took me about a day and a half to finish the sketch into acceptable lineart, and then color it.

I'm so pleased with the end result, because the color pallet was so different then the stuff that I usually work with, and it is rare that I opt to color on top of pencil rather then ink.

I honestly don't know why the song inspired me so much. I guess it's just because it reminds me of Chris, and the relationship I have planned out for them in my fics. Like, despite all the bad, Chris would be willing to sit with him at the world's end, if only Wesker would see how much he cares.

Or something.
Yeah.

Anyway, I really like playing with symbolism and postures and subtle, implied meanings behind body language and such. There are a lot of hidden meanings here that I am sure that only I will ever see. Hopefully the one thing that I wanted to emphasize on still shines though however, even with Chris' pants being colored in; the contrast between their colors, light and dark. I'm sure it was more noticeable int he black and white version. Eh. =_=
