Just watched RE: Degeneration last night with a friend, because he got me the movie for a late-Christmas/early-Birthday present, and since we had a gaming session last night (his first time evah playing RE2.
Hmmmm, what can I say about the movie? I don't want to spoil it for those who haven't seen it, because I hate it when that happens to me (and quite frankly, I don't want to bother with a huge-ass journal about it, mostly I just wanted to bump my old journal out.)But to put it simply, my opinion of the movie is that it was... okay. It didn't wow me, but it wasn't "bad". It was average. Not really what I was hoping for, but I guess I don't have too many complaints. Not like with the "live action" movies at any rate. (BURN IN HELL "Alice" BURN IN HELL...)
Really, I don't know if I'm the only one, but personally, I felt that Claire got jipped screen time/action wise. I think that is my biggest complaint. So much of the time she was kinda just standing around doing nothing. It was almost as if Capcom was treating her as though she hadn't survived two zombie apocalypses already, and that she needed to be 'safe' for most of the movie. When she DID have a gun (for the few minutes Leon let her barrow his) she totally kicked ass, but that was definitely not enough time for this fangirl. U~U
I was also hoping for more leon/Claire moments (since Capcom promised that there would be), but as I anticipated, Angela stole most of THAT. :/
I don't know why they feel Leon needs ANOTHER love interest... but at least I don't mind Angela as much as I thought I would. Her boo-hoo sob story kinda bothered me a little, but I like her better then Ada and Ashley, at any rate. Still, I'd have rather Leon "kissed" Claire. U_U;;
The movie was really also very predictable. I kinda saw the end a long time coming. Or maybe that's just because I don't trust anyone working for major corporations like that.
And what was with all the "well as if I haven't seen THIS before!" moments? About half the movie seemed to be rehashing of things that have already happened before! I thought I was having dejavu! Like the moment with Angela and the bridge? (reminiscent of Ada, anyone?).
The only one that seemed cute and/or appropriate to me was when Leon told Claire to get down. *shrugs* but again that might be my fangirlism protecting that single instance. The rest was just kinda annoying. Honestly,
the entire second half of the movie I was just WAITING to hear Leon shout "Angela, WAIT!"
It surprised me that it never came. O_o
Still,regardless of all that, there were only two things that really pushed my buttons:
***spoilers spoilers spoilers***
a - how the flying flip did Wilpharma get their hands on G?! I mean, buying it off of the blackmarket made SENSE because they could have bought it off S-corp OR Wesker himself. But the whole thing about Frederic getting his hands on it "before Raccoon was destroyed"? WHEN? As far as I understood H.U.N.K. and the other USF guys stole-and-lost the main case of completed samples, William had one sample on hand, Annette had one on hand, and then there was the sample in Sherry's pendant. I'm pretty sure that was it. I don't know when/where/how someone would have sneaked in and stolen William's baby out from underneath his nose, the sample Annette had Leon chucked, the sample Sherry had was stolen by Ada, and the sample William had he injected himself with and wreaked havoc throughout Raccoon with. The only logical explanation is if Frederic took a sample off of an infected host of William's (like Ben, say), or collected it off of Will's "corpse" like Wesker did. But at that; he didn't really seam like the sort who would have survived Raccoon, and I don't think Wesker and crew would have been so sloppy as to have just left Will's body in that train for just anyone to happen across. It was either taken and moved, or was within the range of the missle (most likely the later)
b - The fact that Angela's brother could still talk after he injected himself with G, and retained logical thought for just a few short lovey-dovy sister/brother moment, although his body was mutating at an accelerated rate.
I mean, seriously, William was a genius and he lost his humanity almost instantly, but his physiological over-hauls took the entire course of the game. Curtis' seemed to do the exact opposite. He reached the equivalent of Will's second-thirdish stage in a matter of (literal in-story) minutes, and yet he could talk right up next to the end?! I wouldn't have minded if it had been like 1-2 words at best. But full sentences?! COME ON!! It was cheesy! and not in the good way!
Now, honestly, I guess I SORT OF have to give this one a bit of a break; in Umbrella Chronicles Wesker DID mention somewhere something about a hypothesis that each of the viruses react differently to different people's psychological profiles, which is why it grants some people some abilities, and why it takes some people longer, etc etc. (Like how Wesker is a polymath, so he has a fair blend of strength and speed, how Krauser was gifted raw power, and how Martin Crackhorn was capable of holding on to logical thought for several days after his fellow workers before succumbing to the T-virus, simply because of his love for his beloved "Alma".)
Hypothetically, William could have lost all rational thought so swiftly because he was already so unstable, but it took his body a while to transform/mutate because as a scientist so absorbed in his research, I doubt he used it very much, whereas Curtis seemed fairly stable up until the loss of his wife and daughter, so he was able to hold onto his sanity for just a bit longer. It makes perfect sense... but it just BUGS me. :/
It's just so bitterly tragic that William was so smart and yet he falls down so hard to become nothing at all, just a furious, gurgling mass of writhing flesh. And Curtis mocks my pain...
***/end spoilers***
Then the one last thing that upset me was something more wishful-thinking related anyhow; I had been sorta hoping that Wilpharma would be Wesker's new "Umbrella" that he was creating. The name was perfect for sentimental reasons ("William Pharmaceutical"...♥ ), but I don't think Wesker's company could have been so easy to destroy. U_U which means HIS company might be "Tricell" *sighs*. I like the name Wilpharma better. : <
Ah well.
I'm done griping now; regardless of what I've said here, I really did enjoy the rest of the movie, and despite would actually recommend it despite it's flaws. Assuming you're not a die-hard Leon/Claire fan like myself. : S It had some kick ass action scenes and I enjoyed what little CLeon goodness there was to be gleaned.
(Speaking of...)
Now just to wait out the nuclear bomb that will be RE5... >n<

protector/rescue roll doesn't want to fight anymore. I don't really know. But like everyone else I do wish she had more action moments like Leon had.

we hide so we can be found
we walk away to see who will follow
we cry to see who will wipe away our tears
and most of all
we let our hearts get broken to see who will come and fix them
I don't think it's that she doesn't WANT to fight (because, Redfield's are survivors, and Claire is tough. She COULD continue to go out and kickass if she so chose. Also, she is fully active in the march against bio terrorism)---she's just fighting in a different WAY.
At that, I can't help but feel like her protective older brother might also have had a hand in making sure she doesn't see actual combat anymore, after Raccoon and then Rockfort. Claire never was a soldier, unlike he and Jill. She's his "baby sister". So I think Chris also would have wanted to keep her out of the line of fire.
Still, that doesn't mean she didn't deserve more action sequences, cause she CAN KICK ASS. Blarg.

But maybe with everything that had happened to her, like you said losing Steve and having Sherry being taken away, she couldn't bring her self to take that path with everyone else.
I can picture Chris kind of acting that way as the whole macho 'big brother', but I don't think he'd go as far as to prevent her from fighting like the rest of them. She would find a way, like the whole intro video the Code Veronica.
-off topic-
Too bad they didn't have like Rebecca somehow, or even include her in anything new lately. She's like MIA or something.

My only thing is that I actually LIKED Angela. I think she's a better love interest for him then Ada or Ashley. At least Angie didn't annoy the holy living piss outta me every five miniutes, or make me laugh when she fell of the catwalk, maniacally. >_>

did you see that deadspace movie i laughed at every seen i love gore!^-^
Leon and that Angela chick... Seriously now, does Capcom want to make Leon a friggin PIMP?! WTF?! They disappointed me with that.
I was disappointed with what's-his-name's ability to talk for a short while, too. Considering that William was a genius and yet he couldn't even say one word >w>;;; WTF?! >~<;;;

I have an important announcement to make.
"Boobs."
Thank you, that is all.
And Leon's already been kinda pimped out as it is anyways, I've felt that way since Ashley came into the picture. :/
At least Angela could DO something. And she wasn't as "mysterious" and slutty as Ada (although her dress at the end was pretty bad...)
*huffs* I don't mind Angela as a character, I just REALLY hate how many love interests Leon has. = _ =;;
